Many legends developed around Saint Nicholas of Myra.
Nicholas, the Bishop of Myra, is one of the most popular saints who ever lived. He was a real person, one of the bishops who attended the Council of Nicea, where he got so angry at Arius for denying the divinity of Christ, he slugged him. Americans know him as Santa Claus. Obviously, many legends have grown up around him.
We can trace his fame back to the 6th century, when Justinian built a church in his honor at Constantinople. It seems that he had been born into wealth he was generous with his resources both before and after he became bishop.
His activities have been completely blown out of proportion by myths. Nonetheless, because of obeyed Christ's words and invested his riches in helping others, Nicholas may be the most beloved bishop of all history.
